The Friendship Force of Oregon’s Mid-Willamette Valley invites you to attend the 2014 Pacific Northwest / Northern Rockies Regional Conference on April 25-26 in Albany, Oregon. The theme of the conference is Friendship Force: We’ve Got a Good Thing Going. The conference venue is the Holiday Inn Express, 105 Opal Ct. NE, Albany – just off I-5.

Albany is about 65 miles south of Portland and 40 miles north of Eugene in the heart of the Willamette Valley.

The Conference Check-in Desk will be open at 12:00 pm. If you arrive early on Friday, there will be an opportunity to explore the culture and history of Albany including the volunteer built carousel project, and the Albany Regional Museum. The visit to historic Albany begins at 1pm on Friday, April 26.

The presidents’ pre-program meetings start at 4:00 pm, the cash bar opens at 5:00 pm and the dinner program begins at 6:00pm. The Saturday program starts at 9:00am and ends at 8:30 pm.

We have limited home hosting capability, but will try to accommodate as many attendees as possible. We have reserved a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn Express at the corporate rate. The rooms will be held until March 25. Be sure to tell them you are with Friendship Force and are attending the conference when making your reservations. Home hosting will be offered on a first come first serve basis. You will receive confirmation of your registration and if you have a home stay before March 20 if we receive your registration by March 15. There are several other motels within walking distance of the Holiday Inn.

The educational portion of the conference will address the future of Friendship Force and how we can keep that Good Thing Going. In addition there will be opportunities to expand and renew our regional friendships.

Our keynote speaker will be Joy DiBenedetto, Friendship Force International CEO, who will provide us insights into the international organization’s plans for the future. Marilyn Peterson, the Field Representative from the PNW/NR region will conduct the Friday Presidents’ meeting.

The registration and conference fees will be $80.00 (US) per person. The fee includes Friday night dinner, buffet lunch and banquet dinner on Saturday night. We ask that US attendees pay by check in advance. Canadian attendees, please pay in US currency upon your arrival.

Presidents: as is the custom, there will be space for your clubs’ displays. Also on Saturday afternoon each club in the region will be recognized so please be prepared to speak briefly about your club. We would especially like for you to share something that your club has done about which you and your members are particularly excited.

Transportation options:

Air – fly to Portland (PDX) and take either City2city or the Hut Shuttle to Albany. Both shuttles require reservations in advance. City2city shuttle (, 1-866-999.8001 ) stops at the Conference venue. Hut Shuttle (, 1-541-926-2525 ) stops at another hotel.

Amtrak – to downtown Albany. We will provide transportation from the Hut Shuttle stop and from Amtrak. Please contact us in advance if you wish shuttle service.

Drive – the conference venue is less that a mile from I-5. Several RV parks are located near the Holiday Inn.

We look forward to seeing you on April 25-26. Remember that the Regional Conference is a great opportunity for all Friendship Force members, not just presidents and board members, to gather, to learn, to renew friendships and to make new ones.

FFCC 2015 Summer Picnic

FFCC Summer Picnic on July 19, 2015

Charles & Mary Flaum are offering their home as the site for our FFCC Summer Picnic. They live on the south side of Fairview Lake and offer swimming and boating (they have 3 kayaks, a paddle board and a pontoon boat). All you have to do is bring your own towel and food to share. More details to follow.

Our plan is to start the picnic at 1pm and have the afternoon for fun and games. Then we will have a potluck at 4pm. We need help to plan picnic and potluck and to set up games and other activities. Volunteering for this event is a great way to meet our members. Plan to attend and participate.

Annual Meeting

Sunday, November 3, 2013

Be sure to put on your calendar the annual meeting for our club—Sunday, November 3, 1:00-3:00, Vancouver PUD. If you are new to our club, check with any member about directions to find the Public Utilities District in Vancouver. It is just off exit 1 C from I-5, just north of the Interstate Bridge.

As always this will be a potluck. The club supplies coffee and tea. You should bring your own plates, utensils, and a dish to share—main course, vegetable, salad or dessert. After dinner there will be a brief business meeting, with election of officers for 2014, information about exchanges for 2014 and requests for 2015, and presentation of the Grace White Award for Outstanding Service. Pam Brown and Wayne Potter will show pictures from their recent travels with FF to eastern Russia and Mongolia, including travel on the trans-Siberian Railway.

This is also the time to renew your membership for 2014, so do bring your checkbook. Club dues continue at $25 for individuals and $40 for couples. After the meeting, Carol Taylor will lead an information meeting for those interested in joining the exchange to Los Angeles and San Diego in January.

8-10-2013 Summer Club Picnic

Summer Picnic on the Waterfront

Saturday, August 10, 2013

Donna Egan has once again invited us to enjoy a summer picnic at her home on the Columbia River. The board strongly encourages you to bring someone who wants to know more about Friendship Force and might decide to join our club. We will share stories of exchange experiences, and other fun activities with Friendship Force. You will also have an opportunity to learn more about the next two outgoing exchanges—to San Diego and Los Angeles in January and to Nanjing, China, in May 2014. We see this as a good way to expand our membership and to get new people actively involved.

This will be a potluck so bring a main course, salad or dessert. Also bring your own plates, table service, cups/glasses. Come at 4:00 to enjoy boats on the river, sunshine, delicious food. We will provide coffee and iced tea.

Please join us and be sure to invite a prospective member!

Directions to Donna Egan’s

At first exit off I-5 north of the Columbia River Bridge, take Hwy 14 headed east. Take the Ellsworth exit and turn right at the stop sign (south). At the next sign, Evergreen Hwy, turn left. You are headed east again. Take the second right hand driveway after you go under the I-205 bridge, which is directly across from the trout hatchery (green and white buildings). A small sign says “Schafer Road.” Stop and look carefully for a train as this is the main Burlington Northern train track and the trains move very fast. Turn right after crossing the tracks, and her house is the only one you will find. Park along the driveway leading to the house.

7-27-2013 Beaverton International Celebration

On Saturday July 27, 2013 our Friendship Force Columbia Cascade Club had a booth at Beaverton’s International Celebration that was part of the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District’s Party in the Park at the HMT Complex at 158th and Walker Rd in Beaverton.

Our goal was to introduce Friendship Force to interested people and to encourage those people to learn more about our club with the hope that we could increase our membership.

The weather was perfect for the event and there were many other interesting booths and entertainment going on all over the huge park.

Bob & Laural organized the booth and our volunteers Emily Smith, Marge Terdal, Sharon Dawson, Jerry & Phyllis Bacon, Bobbie Klabin-Smith, Maureen Long, and Dick Van Ingen helped by spending time in our booth and telling others what Friendship Force is all about. We had 25 people sign up for more information.
